Welcome to Speeches & Sprints. This blog will examine speeches and speechwriting, as well as provide insights to improve our presentations and performance when teaching indoor group cycling classes (or enjoying them).
So. Let’s get the obvious out of the way: Why blog? And why blog about these two topics?
Some of the oldest advice about writing is to “write what you know.” Well, I know speechwriting, and I know indoor cycling. Most importantly, I know the importance of finding connections among things that may seem disparate. The connections between speechwriting and instructing certainly qualify in that regard.
Realizing that the two activities share connections was quite unexpected. But they exist. The similarities include the importance of
- Preparing for peak performance,
- Planning for contingencies and
- Improvising in the moment.
In short: This blog is for writers, riders, instructors and all those who wish to improve their presentations and performance, whether that takes place in a conference room or a cycle room.
I invite you to join me on this journey, sharing insights as we discover, develop and live them. Join me as we learn. Join me as we grow.
So gear up, slide in the saddle and let’s go for a spin.
